Ovenden Allworks completed the new timber walkway and footpath in Canterbury, to connect the ASDA to the nearby residential development.

The boardwalk was made using Greenheart Hardwood timber, at a raised level to account for the site's location in a flood zone. The walkway is supported by 24 bottom driven steel tubular piles and reinforced concrete pile caps.

The Project

The Project

The other associated works required to deliver this project consisted of the site clearance, earth works, concrete abutments and landings, plus the connecting new tarmac footpaths.

Minor alterations to the ASDA car park were made to allow safe access to the walkway, including the installation of bollards and fencing.

Ecological Impact Assessment

Ecological Impact Assessment

Due to the sensitive nature of the site, an Ecological Impact Assessment was issued that highlighted that protected species may be present on both the site and surrounding areas. Therefore mitigation was required, including low level LED lighting to avoid disturbing nesting bats, plus a vegetated retaining wall system was used to sympathetically blend in with the environment.
